With 78% of annual reports submitted originating from the energy sector, the sector’s laudable dynamism has set it head-and-shoulders above its peers.
Although 2023-2024 was the program’s first mandatory reporting period, the Australian Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre received reports from only 54% of all critical infrastructure assets. Only the energy sector bucked this sluggish trend: energy assets made up more than two thirds of all submissions made during the reporting period, which concluded at the end of September 2024.
Early adoption proves again to be a core strength of the industry, with submissions coming in from innovative assets including wind, hydro and solar farm installations, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The biggest takeaway from 2023-2024 is renewable energy dynamism, with more energy sector operators taking responsibility for advancing the Risk Management Program than any other group across Australia.
With service offerings ranging from auditing and remediation to identity and access management, OpusV champions compliance by design. In the coming year, we will again be at the forefront of the effort to protect renewable energy in Australia from cyber threats.
